|
A two week Advanced Leadership Course on Human rights and democracy was organized by Mehergarh from 19th July to 1st August. The overall objective of the leadership program is to transform the profile of the Pakistani leaders by inculcating the true principles of democracy, rule of law and ethical based decision making in the minds of young leaders. The advanced level training will take the same objectives one step forward by providing them advanced skills for achieving the same purpose.
Every year Mehergarh trains about 30 young leaders from all over the country. This training includes the alumni that were trained in the last four years.
The training covered skills of strategy building, analyzing the current political scenario, deeper analysis of the social issues, engaging with the media and public speaking.
The teaching methods at Mehergarh are anything but traditional; Experiential sessions where participants learn through discovery, educational trips and self growth sessions where they unleash their own personal strengths.
The participants visited the senate of Pakistan and also witnessed the ongoing senate session.
The lead trainer was Dr Fouzia Saeed, with a PhD in Education from the States, mostly known for her book Taboo: The hidden Culture of the red light area. Dr Kamran Ahmad, with a PhD in Religious Tolerance, from the States, is also a lead trainer. Other resource persons included Rafiq Jaffer and Khadim Hussain.
Unlike the traditional education that does not provide any analysis and critical thinking tools; at Mehergarh participants learn how to look at the same thing from different angles. They learn to do deeper analysis of social issues so that they can find the root causes and not spend their lives coming up with superficial solutions.
