We believe that through theater, songs, music and storytelling we can bring about effective and more sustainable change in people's thinking than through intellectual debate. South Asia is still an oral culture, especially in rural areas. The founders of Mehergarh have been long involved in cultural programs for social change. Through this platform, Mehergarh will expand its relationships with other organizations that work with this approach so that the overall work of cultural action and social change can be nurtured to become a mainstream strategy for social change rather than one left on the fringes.

Every year Mehergarh will organize or be a part of a coalition to organize an annual festival of cultural action for social change in Karachi. At this festival several groups will participate and showcase their efforts to bring critical thinking and empowerment of marginalized people through creative arts. A core objective of these events will be to enable a wide spectrum of Pakistan youth to associate with one another during this process.

Mass media will also be used for inculcating critical thinking and broad based ideas of democracy and secularism.
